Heckstall sentenced to life
One of the men convicted of killing a police informant will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Gregory Heckstall was sentenced Tuesday morning in Rensselaer County Court to life in prison without parole.

Prosecutors said he was the trigger man in the murder of police informant Christopher Drabik back in 2003.

Drabik was scheduled to testify in a drug case against another man. Drabik's aunt spoke in court, and said Heckstall will never know the pain he caused the family.

A visibly shaken Rensselaer County DA Patricia DeAngelis said Drabik's decision to help out the police department cost him his life.

"He is dead today because he was a confidential informant. He would still be here today," she said.

The other man charged in the case, Michael Hoffler, will be in court on May 9.
