2010 season brings theater success
About 100 miles north of Manhattan sits a small 148 seat theater. And while that theater may be far from Broadway, our Beth Croughan found that might be what's bringing it such success.

ELLENVILLE, N.Y. -- In the middle of January, it's snow that's lining Canal Street in Ellenville. But come here on a Friday or Saturday night in the middle of the summer...
"Our rising complaint is that parking is hard to come by now. Which is a great complaint to have," said Brendan Burke, the Producing Artist Director at the Shadowland Theater.
And finding a seat was a bit difficult too. Almost half of the 2010 shows at the Shadowland Theater sold out. Ticket sales increased by six percent from 2009. And overall attendance was around 90 percent for the season, a new high.
"The economy in a lot of ways helped us. I think we offered an option for folks that would go to New York to see their shows," said Burke.
And although, it's on a much smaller scale than say Broadway, the non-profit theater aims to deliver.
"Our mission is to really produce an interesting story. We do a varied season. A small scale musical, a really accessible comedy. The other offerings tend to be a little more challenging," Burke explained.
The Board of Directors hope to provide more of those types of plays in the near future.
They are in the midst of a $350,000 capital renovation project. First on the list is installing new heating and air conditioning. There are even plans to add about 24 more seats.
"Right now, we're basically a mid-May to early October. I think with the renovations, we have we certainly can be March through November. Maybe dead of winter will be a little tough just if nothing else for the weather," explained Board President Bill Collier.
The 2011 season lineup will be announced in April.
