UNITED STATES -- Looks like members of congress won't be enjoying the Fourth of July weekend.
The Senate was supposed to have a week-long break starting on July fourth. Instead, they will work on legislation to raise the debt ceiling and cut the deficit.
Majority Leader Harry Reid has called lawmakers back to work, saying they have unfinished business.
"This president has often said with liberty comes responsibility. We should take that responsibility seriously. I'm confident we do. That's why the Senate will reconvene on Tuesday, the day after the fourth. We will do that because we have work to do," Reid said.
On August 2nd, the U.S. will run out of money to pay the nation's bills in full and on time. Republicans are pushing for deep spending cuts to be included. Democrats want tax hikes on the wealthy and large corporations.
