NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- “Dignity for All.” That was the theme of this year’s Pride March in New Paltz on Sunday.

The eighth annual Hudson Valley Pride March and Festival started on Main Street and moved to Hasbrouck Park, for food, music and other activities. The pride march was put on by the Hudson Valley LGBTQ or Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning.

Many participants said this was a huge year to celebrate, since the same sex marriage law passed last year in New York, and recent comments by President Obama and Vice President Biden in support of legalizing gay marriage.

Organizers said it's important to see the entire community marching.

Alix Dobkin, LGBTQ Center Supporter and the National OLOC Co-Director said, “It's wonderful to be able to gather all of the people from this community. Because there are so many communities in the Hudson Valley and this is a wonderful way to bring everyone together."

Ginny Apuzzo, Founding President of Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center said, “When we step off the curb today, we're really taking a leap into a giant march of groups that come before us marching for equality and there will be groups that come after us marching for equality."

Organizers estimate more than 2,500 people turned out for the march.
