GREENE COUNTY, N.Y. -- For the third year in a row, Windham Mountain will host the eighth in a series of 10 Mountain Bike World Cup events.

This year's event is particularly special to the community around Windham Mountain. Because of the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Irene late last summer, it took a great deal of community effort to ensure that the event could be held at Windham again this year.

"Nine months ago, we were answering questions about whether or not we would be open for ski season and here we are, hosting Olympians and the World Cup and this is truly a team effort with the community, the legislature, the governor and it's really been impressive to watch it come together. This means so much to the locals, the employees. You can see the pride building in the employees as they watch all these people come into town and see what we've done over the past few months," said Chip Seamans, President and General manager of Windham Mountain.

The Windham World Cup is the only World Cup event held in the United States.

The four members of the U.S. Mountain Bike Olympic team were present at the event.

The World Cup is where athletes qualify for the Olympics.

The Olympic summer games will be held in London starting at the end of July.
