The Red Sox/Yankees rivalry has gone from the baseball field to the back burners, with Beantown stepping up to the plate with a Restaurant Week that hits a home run with visitors and locals alike.

Take it from Bistro du Midi's executive chef Robert Sisca, a former New York chef who changed his stripes in the kitchen.

"One thing I really love about Restaurant Week is it gives me an opportunity to work with the suppliers and vendors on local ingredients and seasonal ingredients and then create that into my cuisine," says Sisca.

Approximately 200 restaurants in Boston, Cambridge and nearby suburbs participate in Boston’s Restaurant Week during the weeks of August 14-19 and August 21-26.

A two-course lunch goes for $15.11, a three-course lunch costs $20.11 and three-course dinner costs $33.11. Visit www.restaurantweekboston.com for details.

All summer long there are more ways to get into the swim with the Bay State's culinary scene. From the Freedom Trail to the Seafood Trail, the town of Salem, located 25 miles north of Boston, is now casting a spell on travelers' appetite.

Visitors can easily craft their own itinerary, as I did earlier in the spring, and visit several of Salem Harbor's top seafood spots, including the charcoal grills at Capt's on Salem harbor, along with Finz'd raw bar and Victoria Station, both on Pickering Wharf.
