NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Pet owners had their furry friends blessed at Mount Saint Mary College's special ceremony. The blessing celebrates Saint Francis' love for all God's creatures.
While a prayer is offered, each pet is gently sprinkled with holy water. Father Kevin Mackin, President at the college, says he believes every creature is important and the love we give to a pet and receive from a pet, is a relationship like no other.
"We look at pets as God's gift to us and we praise God's gifts," Father Mackin said.
"Animals are a blessing to all of us and this is just a way to bless them," said Debbie Hrelic, Associate Professor at Mount Saint Mary College.
About twenty cats and dogs were blessed at the ceremony.
