ALBANY, N.Y. -- The crew aboard the USS Slater paid their respects to the 9/11 victims.

It's a ceremony that's been held every year on 9/11. Sailors presented flags and saluted as the national anthem played.

Those who attended also observed a moment of silence and offered a prayer for the victims and their families.

Organizers of the event say the World War II destroyer escort is an appropriate setting for the remembrance, since it defended America in the days of the Pearl Harbor attacks.
