CLARYVILLE, N.Y. -- Thousands of people still are without power in the Hudson Valley following Tropical Storm Irene. For many area residents, they saw yet another night using flashlights and candles.
In the Hamlet of Claryville on the Ulster and Sullivan County border, it's been four powerless days. Residents here say they're not sure when they'll get their power turned back on. Some have been able to rely on generators.
"You know, the sun's out during the day and stuff, it's pretty warm, we just like to keep the freezers going," said Claryville Resident Archie Ackerley. "At night, we shut them down and in the morning we fire them up. A lot of places though are selling out of gas because everybody is going to the pumps. It's been a hard thing. A lot of people don't have nothing so we're just trying to help out everybody here."
About 32,000 Central Hudson Gas and Electric customers remain without power. Orange and Rockland reports 2,800 of its customers are also still without.
