Desperate times call for desperate measures. And one farmer is hoping a bag of onions may be worth its weight in gold. Our Christian Farrell has the story of one man who's doing all he can to save his farm.

ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. -- You ordinarily pay about $50 at the local supermarket for a bag 50 pound bag of onions. But at Pawelski Farms in Goshen, that same 50 pound bag is going to cost just a little bit more.

Onion Farmer Chris Pawelski said, "I mean, these are top quality onions."

They ought to be. Chris Pawelski is selling this bag of onions for $150,000.

"I think it's actually 51 or 52. I put an extra pound or two in there, 52 good pounds of onions," said Pawelski.

Now, you might ask why anyone would sell a vegetable that can make you cry, and even give you bad breath for six figures?

Pawelski answers that with his add on eBay. He's trying to raise money to save his farm.
A farm that's been the family business for four generations. Now though its future is in peril because of crop damage sustained from Tropical Storms Irene and Lee.

"Basically my farm was totally destroyed. I was only able to harvest three acres before the storm. So, I lost 48 acres which was basically underwater. It's depressing. It's discouraging. I love to farm," said Pawelski.

But come next March when it's time to plant onion seeds, Pawelski said he's afraid he won't be able to. Simply, because he doesn't have the money.

"I simply, I simply, can't survive," said Pawelski.

Unless somebody really, really loves onions.

Pawelski hopes, "May be there will be somebody out there who'll buy a $150,000 bag of onions. You never know. Oprah, if you're watching. If you're out there watching, Oprah, feel free..."
