NEW YORK STATE -- New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is calling for an independent review of nuclear safety at power plants in New York.

Since the state's Common Retirement Fund owns more than $350 million in stock in seven power companies, including Indian Point, DiNapoli called for the appointment of a committee to conduct the review.

The Comptroller says recent studies released by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission suggest that there are more risks than had previously been believed.

Some of these safety issues include several plants being at risk of "significant earthquake damage" because they are near fault lines.
