Of course, the week kicks off with a bit of deja vu, as we watch two championship teams battle it out for the second time in four years in the hopes of securing a Lombardi trophy.
Whether you're a fan of the Giants, or you support the Pats, this north-eastern Super Bowl game is expected to draw a lot of Capital Region eyeballs. Back in 2007, the heavily favored Patriots entered the championship game for the fourth time that decade. Expecting an easy win against the underdog Giants, the New York team shocked football fans across the country by beating the undefeated Patriots seventeen to fourteen. The road to Super Bowl 46 may look familiar to Giants fans, an underwhelming season due to injury followed by a hot streak in the playoffs and a trip to the Super Bowl courtesy of an overtime field goal. But can lightening strike twice for the once-again underdog team? Or will Tom Brady become the third quarterback in history to win a fourth Super Bowl ring? We'll find out tonight.
For sports fans preferring live action, the Harlem Globetrotters are in town for the afternoon at the Times Union Center. At least one Globetrotter is used to the TU's court--Siena Grad Tay Fisher. As a 2008 senior, the Saints guard helped Siena make it to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a surprise win over Vanderbilt. that same year, his ability to both knock down three point shots and score them himself helped secure the Saints a MAC tournament title. In 2009, Fisher signed with the Globetrotters, known as much for their comedy skills as they are their basketball prowess.
Four occupy Albany protestors are heading back to court Tuesday. After setting up camp for about three months at the Capitols' Academy Park, the city's Department of General Services and local police were dispatched to remove Occupier tents back in December, to the dismay of many occupiers. The protestors who were arrested are facing charges of obstructing government administration and criminal contempt. Their original hearing was scheduled for January, however, the DA's office requested more time to look over video and pictures of the incident.
Your Albany bus route is headed for some changes and you can help decide what they'll be. CDTA is holding five public meetings to gather input for phase two of their restructuring project. Phase one focused on the City of Albany routes. Expecting implementation this fall, phase two concentrates on northern and western areas of Albany County. The first meeting will be held Wednesday at the Latham Fire House.
In spite of what the ground hog said, our weather should stay pretty quiet with not much in the way of snow or cold most of the week, although our weather center says there are indications we may see a shot of colder and windy weather by the weekend.”
