ALBANY, N.Y. -- Comic book fans were enjoying the day on Saturday. That's because it was free comic book day across the country.

Two-thousand comic book stores gave away more than three million comic books throughout the day.

One of the purposes of free comic book day is to help get kids interested in reading. But we spoke with the owner of one local comic book store who says it's also about the love of comics.

Earth World Comics Owner J.C. Glindmyer said, "Today is a celebration of comic books, Free Comic Book Day. We're one of many comic stores across the United States and the world celebrating comics. Introducing the people to comics who have never read them before, and rekindle an old flame, people who used to read them, haven't checked them out in a while, so this is a good way to have them check them out again."

Earth World Comics is also involved with a books for troops program, in which people can donate comic books and send them to members of the armed forces serving overseas. They collected about 10,000 comic books on Saturday alone.
