DWI arrest after several cars hit in Albany

STILLWATER, N.Y. -- Albany police arrest a Morris Street man for DWI after they said he crashed into several cars and refused to pull over for police.

Police said Giri Gautam, 24, was arrested around 11:00 pm on Tuesday at the intersection of Dove and Madison Avenue in Albany.

Officials said an officer was flagged down by fire crews for an accident at the intersection of Lark and State Street. Fire crews told the officer the person involved in the hit and run was headed east on State Street and gave a description of the vehicle.

Police said the officer caught up with the driver, Gautam, but he refused to pull over. Police said he sideswiped three more vehicle’s in the process before finally coming to a stop. They said seven cars were damaged in the hit and run.

According to police, Gautam's blood alcohol content was two and a half times the legal limit. He was arrested and charged with Aggravated DWI, as well as several traffic violations.
