MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. -- Mechanicville Elementary School officials are confirming a case of MRSA.

Principal Stephen Marra says since the case was discovered last week, custodians have taken extra precautions to disinfect classrooms, bathrooms and door knobs. Marra says he does not believe the infected person was ever in school while contagious.

Parents are being reminded to encourage their kids to wash their hands frequently throughout the day, which is the best way to prevent the spread of germs.
