KINGSTON, N.Y. -- Outdoor enthusiasts learned all about kayaks at the 14th Annual Kingston Kayak Festival at Kingston Point Beach.

The festival offered opportunities for attendees to try out new kayak gear, as well as participate in kayaking and boat safety courses. Nature tours were also held, as well as exhibits and other activities for both beginners and experienced kayakers.

According to organizers, the event is held to get more people kayaking.

"This is so people can have an opportunity to try it. Some people have done it before and they may come out and want to try a different boat. But in general, it's just you know, come down, try this. Try kayaking. People see them on cars all the time, but everybody thinks they tip over and they don't. It gives people an opportunity," said Bill Kennedy, one of the event organizers.

Proceeds from the festival will benefit Kingston's environmental education programs.
