SCHOHARIE COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Gilboa-Conesville School District is pulling together in the wake of a tragic accident that took the lives of two students.

Jeffrey Jones, 16, and Brittany Paes, 12, were killed in an ATV accident in Gilboa Wednesday.

Schoharie County Sheriff's deputies say the two were riding out in a field on a four-wheeler when a dump driving heading toward the dam hit them.

Friends say both Jones and Paes were active in their school and community.

Grief counselors have been made available throughout the district to help their classmates cope with the loss.

"It's very difficult. We've experienced a difficult year, but we hang in there together. It takes a lot of courage. It takes courage from our kids, it takes courage from our staff, but our kids know that we care about them and that we are part of the family and this affects everyone," Superintendent Ruth Reeve said.

The school is also looking to raise money for both families. Anyone interested in donating to these funds should contact the Gilboa-Conesville School District.
