HUDSON, N.Y. -- Caretakers in Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson have been upset over dozens of missing American flags from graves dating back to the Civil War. Spread out over several acres with limited lighting, police said the cemetery is a difficult area to patrol, so they set up a surveillance camera system instead. After reviewing the surveillance footage, they were able to find their culprit.

"We opened up the surveillance cameras and we were startled to find a woodchuck was sitting there at the base of the gravestone with an empty flagpole in front of him," said Vincent Wallace, caretaker. "We hope the investigation continues, and we find out where he took the flags, that's important. And that we deal with the woodchucks so they don't do it again."

After finding the culprit, police spent nearly an hour using a special camera searching through woodchuck holes in the cemetery. Eventually they were able to find the remains of the nearly 75 missing American flags.
