GHENT, N.Y. -- Air quality testing near the site of a fire at a Ghent recycling plant has turned up no trace of potential carcinogens. The state Department of Environmental Conservation says tests within a 15-mile radius of the TCI plant showed no detectable levels of harmful chemicals.

The DEC says there is no threat to public health, and the Department of Agriculture says people should not be concerned about the effects on livestock or produce. The fire broke out on August 1st, and rekindled over the weekend.

Columbia County's Office of Emergency Management says it's now focusing on the cleanup, and continuing the investigation into the fire.

A toll-free hotline has been set up for insurance claims for property owners in the area who were affected by the fire in any way. That number is (866) 837-5021.
