Following a massive fire at a recycling plant in Ghent earlier this month, officials held a public meeting to ease some of the lingering concerns of nearby residents. Our Erin Vannella has more on what residents heard in that meeting.

GHENT, N.Y. -- The TCI recycling plant site is contaminated with PCBs in the wake of this month's massive fire, but nearby residents are being reassured that there are no contamination issues beyond the site itself. That was the update neighbors heard at a public meeting Thursday night.

Members of the DEC, Environmental Protection Agency, state department of health and local law enforcement were all on hand to answers questions from residents.

One big concern raised by some residents in the aftermath of the fire was that they had trouble getting information when the situation was unfolding. It's a message the Columbia County Sheriff's office says it heard loud and clear.

"I can tell you that for the last two weeks, I have been doing nothing but looking at notification systems. Two or three of them a day for two or three hours a day. I will have something to present to our board of supervisors public safety committee on Tuesday night," Lt. Thomas Lamphier said.

Meanwhile, the TCI plant will be taken down starting Friday, with investigators doing further analysis of the PCB levels.

Representatives of the company did not attend the public meeting.
