ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Eating an entire onion might not be on the top of most people's to-do list, but some people chose to do just that on Saturday at the sixth annual Pine Island Onion Eating Contest.
The Polish Legion of American Veterans Pavilion hosted the event where many gathered to watch as participants chomped down on the hearty vegetable.
The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce came up with the idea in order to promote the area's 3,000 acres of onions.
This year's winner? Well, it's the same guy it's been for the last two years: Ray Wesolowski. He received a $100 check from the Orange County Vegetable Growers Association, a plaque, and of course, bragging rights.
