ALBANY, N.Y. -- Thousands of people who were wearing pink, descended on Albany's Washington Park on Saturday for the 18th annual Susan G. Komen Northeastern Race for the Cure. The annual race raises money to benefit breast cancer research and helps to fund preventative care programs.

Some people ran in Saturday's race in honor of friends and family members who died from breast cancer, others ran in support of people who currently have it, and there were also survivors running too. Regardless of the reason for participation, everyone is there to support the good cause.

"It's fantastic to have the whole community come together for a cause, it's absolutely wonderful. There's a lot of support, men and women too. It doesn't just affect women, so it's great to see some men out here as well," noted Brenda Ross, runner.

Organizers said last year they raised more than $280,000, and this year they hope to beat that number by raising more than $300,000.
