FLORIDA, N.Y. -- Local farmers affected by Hurricane Irene last year are giving back.

Trucks filled with fruits and vegetables are heading down state to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Potatoes, lettuce, apples, carrots and other produce were loaded onto two trucks Friday.

An Orange County community action program worked in conjunction with the Cornell Co-Op to help those without get what they need.

Mike Dunleavy, RECAP- Assist. Dir. of Energy Conservation, said, "A lot of people can't cook. A lot of people have spoiled a lot of food. I know myself, I threw out $150 out of my fridge after two days. So, they have nothing. A lot of the stores out there have nothing either. They have no electricity, so they have no food. What we are bringing isn't steak, but it is greens, carrots and vegetables, apples, things that will sustain them, and they don't have to worry about temperatures and things like that."

The trucks will make stops on long island, New York City and Staten Island.
