STATEWIDE -- In honor of Veterans Day on Sunday, students a Rensselaer County high school showed their appreciation for the men and women who have served our country. "Take a Vet to School Day" was organized by Congressman and Army veteran, Chris Gibson in collaboration with with Time Warner Cable and the History Channel.

A panel of veterans answered questions from students and shared their war stories at Maple Hill High School. Journalism students also read biographies during Friday's program, after conducting research and phone interviews with the veterans.

"It was a great opportunity to personally thank them for their service as well. So, it was really an eye opening experience," said Siobhan Sorensen, Maple Hill senior. "I learned a lot about different military terms that I had no idea about. I learned about all the different things you can do in the military, besides just being on the front line. It made me a lot more appreciative of their service."

Congressman Gibson served for 24 years in the United States Army. Time Warner Cable is the parent company of YNN.
