DUTCHESS COUNTY -- Mid-Hudson Subaru is kicking off the holiday season with their annual holiday coat drive. Saturday was the first day of the drive, and event organizers said they already collected nearly 500 coats.
Those participating said it's an honor to donate coats to help those in need. This year, many of the coats will be brought downstate to Sandy victims.
"We pride ourselves on the fact that this is a local coat drive, it goes to local people in the community who are in need, and it is donated by local people. This year is a little bit of extenuating circumstances with Sandy, and we are going to step up," said Peter Maher, Mid-Hudson Subaru owner.
The Dutchess County Sheriff's Department will help distribute the coats that are staying local. Mid-Hudson Subaru is accepting coats for donation through the end of the year.
