ALBANY COUNTY, N.Y. -- One sure sign that Christmas is on its way is the annual cutting down of the state Christmas tree.

Workers attempted to cut down the tree Tuesday morning, but there were some issues when the truck brought to haul it away broke.

The Blue Spruce is more than 30 feet tall and was donated by Lise Poolet of Latham. Poolet says she and her husband picked the tree out together while visiting a local nursery. She says the branches were very sparse at the time.

"It has been with me for 27 years. It started out when it was only a foot tall and a little out of shape compared to the other ones. It turned out to be the most beautiful tree going," Poolet said.

There is no word on when the truck will be fixed.
