Two local organizations are teaming up to provide food for low-income families. YNN's Madeleine Rivera talked to the director of a food pantry in Lee about an event they're holding this weekend.

LEE, Mass. -- Running a food pantry isn't always easy, especially when donations run low.

"I do feel that pressure," said Susan Gore, director of the Lee Food Pantry.

The pantry has been struggling with a low number of donations for a while now.

"I'm sure not just our food pantry, but I'm sure a lot of other food pantries are struggling at this time," said Gore.

And recent storm Sandy may have also affected the flow of donations.

"Because there's so much stuff going on in our neighboring states, New Jersey and New York, that people are really picking and choosing who they send their contributions to," said Gore.

All this makes the task of serving a growing number of people a bit harder.

"Within the last few months here, I've seen a 30 percent increase in people and I've seen a lot of younger families coming in and they don't want to be here. Nobody wants to be here," said Gore.

But the food pantry in Lee is getting a helping hand from the town's Kiwanis Club. They'll be holding a drive this weekend to fill a 40 foot truck with food.

"We're going week by week here at the food pantry and we're hoping we can just stock our shelves and get a good supply," said Gore.

The food drive will be held at the town's municipal building. Non-perishable foods are accepted. Checks can also be made out to the Lee Food Pantry.

"Something always comes through for us, though, believe it or not. The people in the community have been very good," said Gore.
