NATIONWIDE -- If someone is lucky enough to win that Powerball jackpot tonight, they'll have at least a half-billion dollar payday.

Mathematicians are certainly earning their paychecks before the big drawing. A math professor with the University of Akron puts the odds of winning Powerball at one in 175 million. Compare that to the odds of being struck by lightning: 1 in 5,000.

Places like Stewart's Shops are also cashing in.

Stewart's Shops Spokesman Tom Mailey said, "Today will be the day when we see people come in with two, three hundred dollars or more. When the Mega was big earlier in the year, we had people who bought in blocks of a thousand dollars. Enough offices get together and make two, three, four hundred dollar purchases."

The $500 million jackpot could certainly grow as ticket sales come in.

You can watch tonight's drawing live on YNN at 11 p.m.
