THOMPSON, N.Y. -- A New York City film crew on Anawana Lake Road was an unexpected, but welcome sight, in the Town of Thompson.

"I think anything that brings revenue to our community would be wonderful. We need all the help we can get," said Cathy Diaco.

Humungoid Films thought the abandoned properties in Sullivan County would make the perfect back drop for their post-apocalyptic thriller film “Gas Mask.” The film is about a lone traveler who stumbles upon an isolated house much similar to how this independent crew stumbled into this small town, after a picture on the photo sharing website Flikr caught their attention.

"Sullivan County is a beautiful area. The naturalistic nature of it is gorgeous," said producer Eric Bussey.

Films like “Gas Mask” filmed on location in the Hudson Valley not only provide revenue for the area, but also provide jobs for the local community.

“I actually found this film through the Hudson Valley Film Commission. Growing up here, it’s isolated, separate from the city. There’s not a lot of activity going on, it’s made for vacationers and all of our business is during the summer. I didn’t know there was filmmaking up here,” said production assistant Bernd Woloszczak known to many as "Chip."

The company is spending the weekend working with local law enforcement to cordon off their shooting location.

The thirty plus film crew will spend thousands of dollars while in town on things like lodging and a property location agreement.
