Traffic stop uncovers marijuana-growing operation
SULLIVAN COUNTY, N.Y. -- A traffic stop in the town of Mamakating has led to drug charges. According to the Sullivan County Sheriff's office, it happened Monday afternoon when officers pulled over Jeffrey Genser, 59, of Suffern.
Deputies say they smelled marijuana in the car and found five kitchen-sized garbage bags filled with the drug in the car. The investigation led deputies to home owned by Genser's wife in Phillipsport. That's where deputies say they uncovered a pot-growing operation.
Investigators do not believe the operation is related to one that was busted across the road on Friday. Genser is charged with DWAI, criminal possession of marijuana and unlawfully growing cannabis.
