ALBANY, N.Y. -- On the heels of the Tappan Zee's 57th birthday, a bid could be selected today for the new design. The New York State Thruway Authority is set to meet this afternoon to choose one of three construction proposals.

The bridge is traveled by almost 140,000 vehicles every day, and more than $750 million has been spent on bridge maintenance in the last five decades.

A new bridge has been 10 years in the making, and should help to cut down on traffic congestion and cost.

The bridge's special committee favors proposal number one, but ultimately the decision will be made by the Thruway Authority Board of Directors.

Today's meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. at their headquarters in Albany.
