Former NYPD officer arrested for fraud

By: Web Staff

WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- A former NYPD officer and a liaison to the Latino community in the Village of Wappingers Falls was arrested.

The attorney general's office says Miguel Rodriguez, 53, conned immigrants who were seeking drivers licenses and immigration assistance out of more than $13,000 between October 2010 and August 2012. Rodriguez is accused of charging immigrants $300 each to enter a state lottery he falsely claimed could get them valid New York State driver's licenses.

The indictment also accuses Rodriguez of charging victims hundreds of dollars for "Asylum and Withholding of Removal" applications which he falsely promised would be reviewed by an attorney.

He faces numerous larceny and fraud charges.
