SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- An internal investigation is underway at the Schenectady Police Department to see if there was any inappropriate behavior at a police platoon party last week that included strippers.
Schenectady Police Chief Mark Chaires confirms about two dozen department members were at the party on Wednesday night at a restaurant in Schenectady. He says shift members put on the parties themselves, and the police department doesn't have any official part of them.
The chief says it's not illegal for a stripper to go to the party, but it's unprecedented. According to Chaires, the investigation is to determine if there was anything illegal taking place at the party. The department will take appropriate action.
This investigation comes only days before Chief Chaires is officially off the job. His last day as chief will be on Monday, December 31st. Chaires is a 24 year veteran of the police department. We do not yet know who will take Chaires' place.
