KINGSTON, N.Y. -- Despite financial challenges, the Queens Galley soup kitchen still managed to feed more than 100 families this Christmas.

Around Thanksgiving, the Galley sent out a press release saying it would be eliminating breakfast meals and laying off members of the staff. The charity depends largely on donations, but it's seen a sharp decline in contributions after Superstorm Sandy.

As word got out that the organization was in need, last minute donations kept the charity afloat and allowed them to provide Christmas meals.

"This is absolutely nothing short of a Christmas miracle here today. The fact that we are here, that we have what we need to put food on the table and not just food but a really spectacular meal," said Diane Reeder, Queens Galley President and CEO.

Reeder says she hopes the organization can raise enough money to purchase the Kingston building the group operates out of. She says owning the property would allow Queens Galley to qualify for grants that would reduce operation costs.
