HYDE PARK, N.Y. — All is quiet at the Mobile Manor Trailer Park in Hyde Park, but it was a very different picture just over a month ago.

Laurie Ferguson, 67, was stabled to death in her home, and prosecutors say Justin Curran is to blame. On Thursday, he appeared in court to answer to the charge.

“He’s insisting that he’s not guilty. Doesn’t know the woman and denies he has anything to do with it,” said Curran’s attorney, Bruce Petito.

Curran is also facing a kidnapping charge following Ferguson's murder, in which he is also pleading not guilty.

“He’s being charged with taking his girlfriend and children without their permission or consent on a ride for a number of hours in his vehicle and not letting them leave the vehicle,” said Petito.

Curran's from Hyde Park, but was arrested in Tampa, Florida. He's currently being held in the Albany County Jail without bail.

Prosecutors say they're still attempting to iron out the events that led up to Ferguson's death.

“The only connection that we're aware of is the fact that they both lived in the complex, which means they would have run into each other, we know of no other connection, as of motive, I'd rather not discuss that,” said Edward Whitesell, Bureau Chief at the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office.

Pending further developments, Curran will appear back in court January 8th.
