Poughkeepsie police warning of phone scam

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Poughkeepsie Police are warning residents about a phone scam.

Police say the caller tells the victim that a family member or friend has been kidnapped and money must be sent in order for a safe return.

According to police, the call comes from the number (347) 891-1626. The caller insists the money be sent via Western Union or Money Gram and keeps the victim on the phone until the money is transferred.

If you receive a similar phone call, or have any information about the scam, call Poughkeepsie Police at (845) 485-3666.
