WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Along with the fiscal cliff legislation, the House could vote as early as Tuesday on a $60 billion relief bill following Superstorm Sandy.

House Republican leaders are splitting the bill in two. They are offering their own bill for $27 billion in immediate aid and an amendment that adds $33 billion for more long-term needs, including projects to protect against future storms.

Its prospects for passage in both Houses this New Year's Day session remain uncertain as lawmakers look to cut federal spending and trim the deficit.

The Senate approved the $60 billion emergency spending aid package on Friday, but since the House made changes to the measure, the bills would need Senate approval again.
