HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. -- Several Catholic schools in the area face closure by the end of the school year, unless they can come up with a plan to increase enrollment in the next two weeks.
Schools at risk include St. Joseph’s in Kingston, St. Mary’s of the Snow in Saugerties, St. Joseph’s in Milbrook, Sacred Heart in Newburgh and Regina Coeli in Hyde Park.
The schools have seen a dramatic drop in enrollment.
They have the option of submitting a proposal, laying out a plan for remaining open to a regional board.
The Archdiocese says it will be difficult, though, for the schools to get their names removed from the "at risk" list.
If the schools close, parents will be given the option of enrolling their child in another Catholic school near their home.
