New support group for homicide survivors

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- In 2011, 770 homicides occurred in New York State, and Dutchess County accounted for seven of those. In response, Family Services now offers the region's first ever support group geared toward homicide survivors.

The first support group will meet at 6 p.m. tonight in the Family Services North Annex Building in Poughkeepsie. Family Services offers help to any victims of crime.

According to the Family Services CEO, the group is committed to healing those individuals who have experienced such trauma.

Their Crime Victims Hotline is available 24 hours a day at (845) 452-7272.
