Vassar holding disaster preparedness training
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A first of its kind disaster preparedness program is coming to Vassar College.
A joint initiative between the American Red Cross and CDPHP resulted in a program specifically designed for college campuses. It's called "Be Red Cross Ready University." Nearly 200 students will participate in today's disaster training.
The hour-long course will teach students how to react to anything: from a fire to natural disasters. The program is modeled around a three-step system -- Get a Kit, Make a Plan and Be Informed.
It's all part of the effort by the Red Cross of Northeastern New York to expand their education programs and create more relationships with colleges and universities across the country.
SUNY New Paltz and UAlbany also recently participated in the program.
