LATHAM, N.Y. -- Members of the New York Army National Guard have returned from the Commander-in-Chief's Inaugural Ball.

Captain Shawn Tabankin of Rexford and Staff Sgt. David Martinsen of Troy both got to celebrate the second inauguration of President Obama.

We caught up with the men last week, along with Sgt. Major Frank Wicks of West Sand, before they hopped a train to Washington, D.C. Tabankin and Martinsen say they were honored to attend the inaugural ball.

"Only so many people can say they have been to a military ball inauguration or anything like that. It is definitely something when I have kids or grandkids I can tell them how everything plays out," Martinsen said.

Tabankin/ said, "The secondary benefit was that we get to represent the U.S. Army by a joint services ball and the New York Army National Guard in particular. We got to meet service men we wouldn't normal come into contact with of different ranks."

Tabankin says he was also honored to meet some original Tuskegee Airmen from World War II.
