HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. -- The MTA says Metro-North had its second highest ridership ever in 2012. Ridership was at 83 million for the year, falling just short of the record set in 2008.
The overall numbers come despite the lingering effects of Superstorm Sandy.
The Hudson line clocked in at 15.9 million riders, a 0.3 percent increase over 2011.
West of the Hudson on the Port Jervis line, ridership was down 6.8 percent. The line was hit hard by both Sandy and Hurricane Irene back in 2011.
A sign of a return to normalcy, though, as the MTA reports monthly ticket sales have been up in January for the first time since Sandy.
