DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. – There is good news for taxpayers in Dutchess County looking for help in filing their 2012 taxes. The Hudson Valley CASH Coalition kicks off its ninth annual effort to aid low and middle income families.
The program helps people claim tax credits that they've earned with ease. This year, individuals earning less than $14,000 and families making less than $50,000 could be entitled to tax credits.
The Dutchess Counties director of community impact says the program was instrumental in the community last year, providing more than five thousand in tax returns for families.
"The cash coalition allows us to work with individuals who are low income and provide resources back to them to help them meet their most basic needs that can be achieved through their tax returns. So you know paying their rent putting food on their table paying for child care. All of those things are really important to helping them achieve their daily goals and their daily needs," said Diane Hart, Director of Community Impact.
It’s estimated that 20 percent of those who are qualified do not claim the income tax credit they've earned when filing their taxes.
