ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced a new bill aimed at boosting manufacturing in New York State.

The "Made in America Manufacturing Act" is the Senator's first bill in the new Congress. It was announced Friday at the Hudson Valley Technology Development Center in Orange County. The bill would create a competitive program that gives funding to states and regions that use local manufacturing.

The Senator said over 1,100 manufacturing jobs were lost in the Hudson Valley from 2005-2010, including more than 700 in Orange County.

"Well obviously the economy is still the number one issue on people's minds, we got job numbers this morning, and unemployment's still going up. What we have to do is help businesses succeed. And one of the things that our manufacturers have been struggling with access to capital," said Sen. Gillibrand.

The money would go toward new facilities, equipment upgrades, and job training.
