SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Schenectady police say a four-year-old girl was found wandering outside without shoes or a jacket.

Police say the girl was found on Eastern Avenue Monday afternoon. They say the girl left the apartment when the grandmother, who was watching her, fell asleep.

A passerby found the girl crying and called the police. The girl was taken to Ellis Hospital as a precaution.

"She was safe, she said she was cold, she was crying. And officers took her up to Ellis as a preliminary, for evaluation. And her condition, she's okay," said Schenectady Police Sgt. Adriel Linyear.

The grandmother was interviewed by police and was released without being charged. Child Protective Services will be looking into the case.
