HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y. -- Many people are heeding the warnings about the storm. Employees at hardware store Herzog in Kingston were busy helping customers who were in buying snow plows, rock salt, shovels and anything else people might need to dig themselves out.
One woman who was in buying a shovel says she's ready.
"I did my groceries. I get milk and bread in case the lights go out, you have stuff in the house, but I have a generator this year. So I'm very fortunate," said Hurley resident Jo Fischer.
"Stay off the roads as much as possible. Stay home. Check on home bound neighbors. Make sure you are being safe it at home. If you should lose power, never use a generator indoors. There is a great danger of carbon monoxide there," Ulster County Emergency Management Director Art Snyder.
Emergency Management officials say best thing residents can to do is to stay calm because it is, after all, winter in the northeast.
