TROY, N.Y. -- The new police commissioner is appointed in Troy, but not without some controversy.
"Congratulations on your promotion, Tony. I'm heartbroken that we've lost a friendship. From the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry. I love you, I love Linda, but I believe this is the end."
Charlene Tedesco, Chief John Tedesco's wife, addressed the City Council Thursday night after Anthony Magnetto was approved as the new commissioner. The police chief was not at the meeting, but Charlene Tedesco addressed the council about the move to appoint Magnetto.
"My husband would choke me for being here," she said. "But I'm telling you, I've had enough. I've had enough. I deserve some respect. My daughter deserves some respect. You people. My heart breaks. My husband has to work here."
This all stems from a lot of a controversy about adding the position. Chief Tedesco and some council Republicans were critical of the move, calling it an effort to get around Tedesco's authority and force him out.
Chief Tedesco hasn't commented on the issue.
