GOSHEN, N.Y. -- The Orange County Government Center is set to be renovated.
Thursday, Orange County legislators voted 15 to 6 to pass a bond resolution for $10 million to prepare surveys, plans, and estimates to fix up the complex.
The 43-year-old center has been closed since 2011, after Tropical Storm Irene and the remnants of Lee caused significant water and mold damage to the building.
Orange County Executive Ed Diana was pushing to build a brand new government center complex.
However, Democratic lawmakers argued the government center is a historic building and that fixing it would cost less than building a brand new one.
