MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- The work started early for those on the front lines. Namely the plow drivers fighting the biggest winter storm forecasted in the Hudson Valley in quite some time.

“Fortunately everything is going well so far. Our crews are all out,” said Jacob Tawil, Middletown DPW commissioner.

According to Middletown DPW Commissioner Jacob Tawil, the city’s arsenal of snow removing equipment includes a dozen plow trucks.

But efforts to keep area roads safe and drivable, unfortunately, aren’t always successful.

Orange County’s Emergency Management Office reported nearly 200 accidents Friday.

In the Town of Wallkill, a driver with no intention of going shopping, lost control of his truck and crashed into TJ Maxx.

In Middletown, workers hustled to finish a delivery of flour knowing they have a long trip ahead of them back to New Jersey.

“Real bad. About three hours with the weather and the crazy people on the road.”

Some, like Jerry Beam, chose to get an early start on shoveling.

“My wife’s looking forward to me getting out there and getting busy. We haven’t had too much snow the last couple of years. I’m finding it hard to hide anywhere. She’s happy about that.”

For most people, though, happiness won’t truly be obtained during this storm until they finally walk through their own front door.
