POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- This snow storm has already claimed one life in the Hudson Valley.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to a fatal car accident on East Cedar Street in the Fairview area.

Police said Muril Hancock, 74, of Poughkeepsie was walking near the shoulder of the road Friday when an 18-year-old Fishkill woman hit him with her car.

Police said the woman told them that she lost control of her Toyota because of the snow.

One neighbor said she witnessed Hancock on the ground soon after he had been hit and tried to help the EMT when they arrived on the scene.

Poughkeepsie resident Amber Rennie said, "He didn’t have a very good pulse when I was taking his pulse to see what was going on and it really didn’t look good. It’s definitely related to the storm. It was really slippery. It had just started like really snowing, you know, kind of like it is doing now but the roads had gotten really slick and I believe the girl just slipped."

Neighbors describe Hancock as a kind and friendly man that was likely walking his dog at the time of the accident.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Traffic Enforcement Unit is still investigating. They're asking anyone with information to give them a call at (845)-485-3680.
